Hello and welcome to another weekend of the Banana Meter! For those not aware of how this works, let me explain it to you. First, our critics check out a film. Then, they rate it on our scale of 0-100%, we gather the percentage from all of your critics and that’s how we get our rating on the Banana Meter.
What is the Banana Meter scale, you ask?
When a film hits above 85% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Bonafide Bananas status.
When a film hits between 55-84% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Ripe status.
When the film hits under 55%, it means it hit Sour Status.
Our next film to hit the Banana Meter is The Lost City

It’s been a while since a movie has made me laugh as hard as “The Lost City.” The entire cast is a dream — Sandra Bullock never misses, Channing Tatum steals the show, Daniel Radcliffe is fun as the villain and Brad Pitt should start his best supporting actor campaign — and the story will take you on a fun journey.

Another notch in the treasure hunting adventure genre that doesn’t add anything new but Tatum, Bullock and Radcliffe all give wonderful performances. This is the treasure hunting mystery Uncharted was supposed to be.

The Lost City is fun enough thanks to Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum (more comedies please), Daniel Radcliffe (more villains please) and Brad Pitt’s glorious cameo (which they should never have put in the trailer!). Some jokes falter, the overlong moments of improv very noticeable, and it might just about run out of steam by the end but there’s enough there for a fun night at the cinema.

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum light up in the screen in this romantic-comedy/adventure hybrid! Though the film loses steam anytime they steer away from our dynamic leads, The Lost City is a fun time that works well at delivering exactly what it promises.

Banana Meter Rating: 65%
The Lost City generates enough humour and entertainment to elevate it above the average & typical star-studded studio comedy thanks to Sandra Bullock & Channing Tatum’s on-screen chemistry. They managed to build the sense of adventure this movie needed to succeed, Brad Pitt also delivers one hell of a cameo.

Banana Meter Rating: 100%
The Lost City may not be a highbrow action-adventure romance, but it is a laugh-out-loud, screwball comedy that has the lion’s share of swoon-worthy, trope-filled moments.

The Lost City doesn’t earn brownie points for originality, but this is a prime example where the fun rapport of the cast can elevate a so-so script. I have to hand it to Bullock for still being able to poke fun at herself and make a ridiculous, silly premise work simply by being her funny, adorable self. It’s the quintessential ‘park your brain at the door and just enjoy it for what it is’ kind of movie that gives you escapist entertainment for two hours.

Have you seen this type of movie before? Yes. Was this movie fun? Absolutely. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum worked well together. I’d suggest seeing this with a full theater.

While bringing some great laughs (especially pertaining to a cliffside), it gets muddled down by dialogue or actions, specifically by the manager character played by Randolph. Predictable almost all around, but brought back by a meaningful ending that you don’t see very much of in the adventure/Indiana Jones types of films.
Tina Kakadelis
Banana Meter Rating: 60%
The real heart of the movie lies with Patti Harrison and Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s charismatic and chaotic supporting characters. The rest of the film doesn’t leave a bad taste in the mouth, but it doesn’t inspire anyone to have seconds.

The lost city attempts to dig up a much loved relic from the past – the ridiculous and over the top romantic adventure films of the 1980s. Whilst it falters in places The Lost City is packed full of genuine laugh out loud moments, and THAT Brad Pitt cameo will have audiences grinning from ear to ear
