Hello and welcome to another weekend of the Banana Meter! For those not aware of how this works, let me explain it to you. First, our critics check out a film. Then, they rate it on our scale of 0-100%, we gather the percentage from all of your critics and that’s how we get our rating on the Banana Meter.
What is the Banana Meter scale, you ask?
When a film hits above 85% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Bonafide Bananas status.
When a film hits between 55-84% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Ripe status.
When the film hits under 55%, it means it hit Sour Status.
Our next film to hit the Banana Meter is The Gray Man
Here is what our Ripe Banana Critics are saying about the film:
Edward Douglas
Banana Meter Rating: 85%
One of the better action movies of the year, twisting all of its Bourne and Bond influences into something quite different but equally exceptional.
Matthew Fox
Banana Meter Rating: 70%
The film was a little long and over-the-top in its action and destruction. Still, it was a fun ride with some fun performances.
Tina Kakadelis
Banana Meter Rating: 50%
The Gray Man is a wannabe John Wick lost in a tonally incohesive script. Needless to say, you’ve seen this movie before you even press play.
Ryan Cam
Banana Meter Rating: 65%
Whenever it was Gosling, Evans, or De Armas on screen, it was good. There are some fun action sequences. But I didn’t care for the CIA stuff. Especially a twist near the end that comes out of nowhere.
Hector Gonzalez
Banana Meter Rating: 40%
The Russo’s The Gray Man looks and feels expensive with all of the explosions, locations, and lengthy action set pieces. However, that doesn’t garner any popcorn movie glamour or enjoyment. Instead, it’s yet another star-led unsharpened franchise starter that will lead nowhere at the end of the day.
Andrew Korpan
Banana Meter Rating: 45%
If The Winter Soldier was the Russo brothers’ Heat, The Gray Man must be their swing at Michael Bay’s Ambulance. Though where Ambulance was able to keep its suspense up for its runtime, The Gray Man utilizes an ungodly amount of drone shots to make sure you’re awake.
Brett Murphy
Banana Meter Rating: 70%
Ryan Gosling does his usual thing which works enough, but it’s Evans’ eccentric and over-the-top performance that steals the show! If you’re in the mood for a mindlessly entertaining action extravaganza, here you go!
Renato Vieira
Banana Meter Rating: 80%
The Russos craft a gripping spy caper with bombastic, ever-escalating action set-pieces Kick-ass, adrenaline-fueled & a blast from start to finish.

Our other film to hit the Banana Meter is Nope
Here is what our Ripe Banana Critics are saying about the film:
Brandon Siedlik
Banana Meter Rating: 92%
Jordan Peele’s best directorial effort to date, however, a slightly lacking script holds this down from being his best. Amazing turns from both Kaluuya and Palmer. A fascinating summer blockbuster that takes us back to some of the classic blockbusters.
Joe Movie Man
Banana Meter Rating: 70%
Say Yup to Jordan Peele’s Nope if you’re down for an IMAX-sized dose of nerve-jangly scares ala Tremors & Jaws. Overstuffed enough to become shapeless by the end…but it looks and sounds amazing throughout. Keke Palmer is a force!
Ryan Arnold
Banana Meter Rating: 88%
Jordan Peele does it again: gifting us with an exhilarating, funny, and wholly original sci-fi thriller. Actors Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea, and Steven Yeun are superb. Nope is great, and it is also an exciting summer blockbuster.
Todd Pengelly
Banana Meter Rating: 83%
Far from perfect on the written side, but holy hell does Jordan Peele bring out the best behind (and therefore in front of) the camera. It’s a blockbuster spectacle about the very idea of blockbuster spectacles, and I love a good spectacle.
Paul Carlson
Banana Meter Rating: 60%
Nope’ is a coiled, tension-filled monster flick that plays with some heady notions – but doesn’t explore them to any satisfying depth.
John Maffeo
Banana Meter Rating: 75%
Jordan Peele delivers again with a sci-fi horror mystery that unravels in completely freaky and unpredictable ways. Loved the disturbing imagery throughout and the exploration of the main cast. Can’t wait to revisit very soon!
Anthony Papetti
Banana Meter Rating: 98%
NOPE is a brilliant summer spectacle. Jordan Peele matures as a director and gives us a terrifying look at man’s obsession with chaos and the ability to harness it.
Michael Thomas
Banana Meter Rating: 75%
Nope is a film full of terrific ideas and concepts based on its incredible visuals and spectacle. The film might not be Peele’s best work, but it’s still a wildly entertaining ride.
