Where does Everything Everywhere All At Once land on the Banana Meter?

Hello and welcome to another weekend of the Banana Meter! For those not aware of how this works, let me explain it to you. First, our critics check out a film. Then, they rate it on our scale of 0-100%, we gather the percentage from all of your critics and that’s how we get our rating on the Banana Meter.

What is the Banana Meter scale, you ask?

When a film hits above 85% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Bonafide Bananas status.
When a film hits between 55-84% or higher from our critics, it means it hit Ripe status.
When the film hits under 55%, it means it hit Sour Status.

Our next film to hit the Banana Meter is Everything Everywhere All At Once

Here is what our Ripe Banana Critics are saying about the film:

James Y. Lee

Banana Meter Rating: 100%

An unadulterated, kickass, once-in-a-generation experience of a film that’s as revolutionary as the first ‘Matrix’ during its 1999 release — except ‘Everything Everywhere’ is somehow even more imaginative, heartfelt, in tune with the Asian diaspora’s experiences, and unabashedly embracing of optimistic nihilism. Don’t take for granted that we live in the universe where this genuinely perfect film exists.

The Daniels have constructed a film that lives up to the lofty title, delivering everything I look for in film. The script is innovative and daring, the visuals ae stunning, the fight choreography is top tier; all laid on top of a human story that hit straight to my core. Not to be outdone, our entire cast deliver stellar performances led by the incomparable Michelle Yeoh. A film that will stick with me for some time to come.

I was more enamored by Michelle Yeoh than the movie itself, but I applaud the originality of the Daniels’ vision and filmmaking style. It’s rare these days to see something that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before, and that alone is quite a feat.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a profoundly mind blowing spectacle. It’s a transcendental movie that makes you feel every possible emotion there is by reaching deep into your soul, playing with those vulnerable little heartstrings within every theoretical version of your multiversal selves. It’s beautiful.

Believe the hype. Everything Everywhere All At Once is that good: I am flabbergasted, amazed, thrilled, and over the moon with this picture. The Daniels have delivered an extraordinary work of art. A combination of genres and emotions bursting through the screen. Actors Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu are marvelous throughout. We are thrown into this multiverse of wonder, and I didn’t want to leave. Everything Everywhere is the very definition of a masterpiece.

Any movie that combines Wong Kar-Wai homages with science fiction already has my favor, but Everything Everywhere All At Once is so much more–it’s one of the most bizarre movies I’ve seen (though perhaps a bit more normal so than the Daniels’ other movie) and yet I was in tears for the last half hour, helped by spectacular performances across the board, but especially from Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan. To attempt a movie like this and then to succeed is no less than a Herculean effort, and it’s hard to imagine we will see its like again.

If there’s one thing I know about the Daniels, it’s that they’re going to serve up a great blend of comedy and rich emotion wrapped up in a totally unique and imaginative package. It may not all click at once, but when it does, it’s glorious. With their latest film, this is all taken to unfathomable heights

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a decade all timer and one of the most original movies I’ve ever seen, a film full of heart, passion, love and creativity. Michele Yeoh is Oscar Worthy and the film is Masterclass in every sense of the word.

There are notes of The Matrix and Into the Spider-Verse, but the duo has created something that genuinely stands on its own. A true masterpiece.
