Box-Office Report: ‘The Batman’ Scores Second Best Opening Weekend of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Batman has opened and has scored the second-best opening weekend of any film released during the COVID-19 pandemic, behind Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Matt Reeves-directed film has reignited moviegoers’ desire to see films presented on a big screen, particularly after a small bump in the road with the emergence of the Omicron Variant in the world. It’s particularly impressive as it’s Warner Bros’ first theatrical-only release in a year, after their plans to release their entire 2021 slate day-and-date in theatres and on HBO Max failed miserably. Here’s the full list of the top 10 films of the week:

  1. The Batman (Warner Bros.): $129M- 4,417 theatres
  2. Uncharted (Sony): $11M (-52%) – 3,875 theatres
  3. Dog (MGM): $6M (-41%) – 3,507 theatres
  4. Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony/Marvel Studios): $4.4M (-24%) – 2,709 theatres
  5. Death on the Nile (Disney): $2.7M (-39%) – 2,565 theatres
  6. Sing 2 (Universal): $1.5M (-32%) – 2,026 theatres
  7. Jackass Forever (Paramount): $1.4M (-57%) – 1,981 theatres
  8. Cyrano (MGM): $682.607 (-51%) – 797 theatres
  9. Scream (2022) (Paramount): $570.000 (-57%) – 853 theatres
  10. Marry Me (Universal/Peacock): $530.000 (-72%) – 1,246 theatres
