The 2022 Sundance Film Festival is here and a ton of our very own Ripe Banana Approved Critics have been covering the festival and we wanted to share some of the films they have been going Bananas for.
Never thought I'd love something so revolting and gnarly as FRESH. I sat breathlessly, not knowing whether to laugh or be mortified. Terrific performances from Daisy Edgar-Jones and an unforgettable Sebastian Stan. So, so, so glad this is a Disney movie. #Sundance #Sundance2022 pic.twitter.com/TtEHmGdXnL

Goddamn, I *loved* FRESH. Twisted, gruesome and so unexpected. Daisy Edgar-Jones is terrific as always, but so is Sebastian Stan (some of his best work). Caught me off-guard in more ways than one. Hell of a debut by Mimi Cave. Don't let anyone spoil a thing in it! #Sundance pic.twitter.com/ykOtuEF3gw

Good Luck To You Leo Grande is an excellent character study aided by a sharp script and sensational performances.

So far, Speak No Evil and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.

I feel like “After Yang” will end up being one of my favorite films of the year. There’s such a delicacy and feeling to this story of understanding life that I want to watch it as often as possible to experience it. #sundance2022 #Sundance https://t.co/YNidv5bYYA pic.twitter.com/p7q8rJw19e

Resurrection will not be for everyone, however I absolutely loved this one. From Rebecca Hall’s performance (that 10 minute monologue oh my!) to the disturbing and tense atmosphere, it’s truly one insane ride that I never wanted to get off of. Absolutely bizarre and disturbing. pic.twitter.com/iqp2IwhLQf

Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson shine in what may be the biggest crowdpleaser of this year's Sundance. Please check out my review of #ChaChaRealSmooth down below!https://t.co/350xSpp9df

#ChaChaRealSmooth is probably my favorite movie of #Sundance so far. I liked Shithouse, but this is a real step up in texture and ambition for Raiff as a creator and especially as an actor. Dakota Johnson is absolutely excellent; Vanessa Burghardt and Leslie Mann very strong.

It may have been shot entirely inside VR, but Joe Hunting’s innovative documentary is one of the most human films at the festival. Funny, strange and tender, We Met in Virtual Reality gets a hearty recommendation from me! #Sundance2022 pic.twitter.com/sAx5JWcZDB

Fresh: HOLY SHIT. This is insanely amazing. Uncomfortable, raw & electric. Sebastian Stan is a star, carrying every scene he’s in along awesome chemistry w/ Daisy Jones. Brilliant direction & edge of your seat writing along with excellent technical aspects.

It is not lost on me that Audrey Diwan’s HAPPENING is showing at @SundanceFest the same day as Roe v. Wade’s 49th—and likely final—anniversary. A furious, pertinent film advocating for abortion rights by showing the apathy and danger that threatens women’s lives in their absence. pic.twitter.com/OXFqHDH9Ru

My first review from #Sundance2022 is here and it's of the incredible "892" starring John Boyega at the top of his game in this gripping true life story.

Isabel Castro’s beautiful immigration doc about perseverance, love and the power of music. Led by two powerful women reminding us of the weight children of immigrants carry for their parents. Gorgeous cinematography, sets the bar high for 2022. A must watch!#Sundance2022 pic.twitter.com/ECXxYkwuNc
